My Experience

After a very successful playing career at a reasonably high level in the Professional game, and experiencing playing in all leagues in Scottish football and English Third Division Football, for a short period in the previous league structure of four Divisions, I took the initiative of achieving my coaching qualifications to UEFA ‘A’ Licence level, during my playing career, before taking up a Player/Manager position at Queen of the South FC., in 1996.

After experiencing working under various Managers as a Player, I wanted to utilise various attributes from all of them, and develop them with my own strengths, beliefs, philosophy and character, to enhance achieving my own ambitions as a Manager in the future.

My experiences have allowed me the opportunity to be in the company of several extremely knowledgeable, and astute, professional individuals, of the game today. I have recently completed the ultimate qualification in football, the SFA UEFA Pro Licence Diploma. During this time, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience which I assure, will enhance my development further, as a Manager now, and in the future. I have also been able to develop an extensive network of contacts in the professional game in Scotland,

My Experience

I am a Co-Owner and Group Sales Director of a very succesful Cumbrian family business called Wm Armstrong (Longtown) Ltd. The business was founded by my Grandfather in 1927 and along with my brother, Derek Armstrong who is our Livestock Director and my cousin, Jennifer Whyberd who is the Managing Director we continue in the families traditional business values, ethics and beliefs.

My background is operations from leaving school and have developed a keen eye for "making things happen" in a different kind of way, by challenging "the norm" on every occassion. Later i moved in to the sales and business development side of the business circa 30 ago. I have a keen eye for processes and procedures and finance is an area where i am also very strong in too..

Rowan & I have kown each one another for circa 30 years now and when Wm Armstrong Group became the Shirt Sponsor of Gretna FC back in 2003 we hooked up again.

After Gretna FC went in to liquidation due to poor financial standings, Rowan and I decided to use our own initiatives and start up The Professionals Elite Academy Ltd & The Professionals Community Sports Trust to coach childres in the more rural areas who perhaps didn't have the opportunity to develop thier own abilities or be coached from a starting position.

So in 2009 we established two Football Coaching business, 'Where every child has THEIR right to have THEIR opportunity to be Heard' in the areas we coach in.

I am also very passionate about children from all walks of life having the opportunity to be coached in the wondefull game of football, regardless of their background or where they live.

It is up to us as adults to provide facilities and the opportunities to enable them to have the options in their early lives, rather than a Xbox or a Playstation type of environment, where zero excersise is achieved..
